NC Museum Of the Arts

WOW! The new NC Museum of Art has so many opportunities for teaching! Thinking about interdiscipliary connections while strolling the collections generates so many ideas for how to bring visual arts into science, math, and social studies. Who would have thought we could study the ancient history of Pompeii, the science of volcanoes and American history all at the same time? I was not aware that Thomas Jefferson was an avid follower of the archaeological dig at Pompeii (which occurred around 1770when Jefferson was helping to establish the foundation of our great nation). Art created from recyled and reused materials could generate curiosity about the science of recycling and a social study about human impact on the environment. So many possibilities....
